The dental implant is a way to replace a lost tooth without affecting edentulous space that surrounds the teeth. To determine whether the implant insertion and existing conditions (sufficient bone-dimension quantitative and qualitative), some investigations are needed before the actual intervention, that a panoramic radiograph and a CT of the jaw where the implant is to be placed. Preventivly, depending on the patient's overall health, an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy might be needed.

The implant is a screw that is inserted into the jaw bone under local anesthesia. More implants can be inserted during the same surgery. Depending on each case, there is a waiting period (Osseointegration), for 4-7 months.

After this period, there must be done an x-ray control and a blunt metal is applied, that is screwed into the implant, over which a crown will be placed.
For a totally successful implant procedure, besides the mastery og the surgeon, there must be a good doctor-patient cooperation. The patient must be very careful about oral hygiene, oral shower and interdental brushes can be used, and a check-up at least once every four months will be needed.
